Wardrobes, or armoires, date back to a time when closets were not included in the construction of homes and so they were the only way to store clothing. Eventually, as homes started including closets as part of the floor plan, the use of wardrobes diminished.
Utilizing double hanging in a wardrobe frees up space for other storage solutions, such as shelves and drawers.
At California Closets, we can design shelving as part of the wardrobe solution. During your free design consultation, make sure to provide your wish list, including your shelving preferences.
Wardrobe shelves can often be too deep to store folded items, like sweaters, shirts, and shoes. These typically only need 12″ -14″ of depth which is why our standard shelf depth is 14″. Shelves deeper than that make it difficult to access items towards the back.
